REMULLA VOWS TO STEP DOWN IF ANTI-DYNASTY LAW PASSES

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday, December 17, said he would immediately relinquish his post if Congress passes the long-pending bill banning political dynasties, stressing that his family is ready to give way to “fresh talents” in government.

“If the law is passed, we’re done. If a meteorite suddenly hits the earth and says, ‘Tapos na political dynasty,’ tapos na kami,” Remulla said in a television interview.

The proposed anti-political dynasty bill is among the priority measures President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has urged Congress to act on, despite the President himself coming from one of the country’s most influential political families.

The measure aims to curb the concentration of political power among a few families, a system widely criticized for breeding corruption and limiting political competition.

Remulla, whose family has held political influence in Cavite since the 1970s, said he would “not mind” leaving politics along with his relatives, including Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.

“I think it’s good for the country. I think new talent has to sprout up,” he said.

“At saka we’re ready. I mean, in my heart and in my mind, I’m ready. We’re ready,” he added.

When asked about possible plans for the 2028 presidential elections, Remulla downplayed any ambition with a candid remark.

“I will quote President Marcos when he was governor… Sabi niya, ‘Every governor in this country has plans to be president. And if he denies it, he’s a liar.’ Fortunately, I’m not governor now,” he said.
