MARCOS URGES AFP GENERALS TO LEAD WITH INTEGRITY

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday called on newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to lead with integrity and humility as they defend the country amid heightened political noise and security concerns.

Speaking at the mass oath-taking of newly promoted AFP generals and flag officers, as well as graduates of foreign Pre-Commissioned Training Institutions at Malacañang, Marcos said their elevation carries a deeper responsibility to the Constitution and the Filipino people.

“We are reminded today that this oath-taking is a reaffirmation of a sacred trust, the respect for the Constitution, service to the Filipino people, and loyalty to the Republic,” Marcos said.

The President urged the officers to remain focused on protecting national sovereignty and safeguarding the freedoms of Filipinos, stressing that their promotion affirms the AFP’s loyalty to democratic institutions rather than to personalities or political currents.

His remarks came amid corruption-related controversies and unsubstantiated coup rumors, which Malacañang has dismissed as irresponsible and destabilizing.

“As you open another chapter, you also accept greater responsibility to lead with wisdom, restraint, and moral clarity. Your promotion reflects a nation’s confidence in your integrity and professionalism, your dedication to duty,” Marcos said.

“May you always wear the stars on your shoulders as daily reminders of your duty to lead with integrity, to serve with humility, and, if necessary, fight for the Republic with honor and courage,” he added.

Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s support for the AFP, citing ongoing modernization efforts and recent increases in base pay and daily subsistence allowances to boost morale and strengthen defense capabilities.
