CABRAL DRIVER NAMED PERSON OF INTEREST IN DEATH PROBE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has considered Cardo Hernandez, the driver of former DPWH Undersecretary Catalina Cabral, as a person of interest in the investigation into her death.

Reports said Cabral was found with several broken bones by firefighters from the Tuba Fire Station.

According to Hernandez, he and Cabral left her home in Tatalon, Quezon City at 2 a.m. on December 18 to travel to Baguio. They temporarily stopped at Kennon Road.

“Umaga po, dito po kami sa Kennon Road. Nagtambay po kami, nagtatanggal ng stress. Tapos pinaalis po kami ng mga pulis kasi bawal po. Accident-prone po ‘yung lugar. So dumiretso na po kami ng Baguio, kumain, tapos check-in. Niyaya po niya ulit ako pabalik dito,” Hernandez said.

Cabral allegedly stayed at Camp 4 Kennon Road around 3 p.m., but when Hernandez returned, he could no longer find her and sought help.

Hernandez recounted that Cabral jumped from a concrete barrier and hit large rocks in the river, with the drop estimated at 40 to 50 meters.

The Tuba Municipal Police Station has already summoned Hernandez for questioning, as he was the last person seen with Cabral before her death.
