The children of the late Antipolo City 2nd District Representative Romeo Acop expressed their gratitude for the prayers and messages of sympathy they received following their father’s passing.
In a family statement, Philip, Reena, and Karla Acop confirmed that the veteran lawmaker died due to a heart attack.
“It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that our family confirms the news that our beloved father, Congressman Romeo Macusi Acop, has passed away due to a heart attack,” the children said.
“As we grieve this immense loss, we also choose to honor and celebrate the life of our Daddy Romy—a soldier, a police officer, a lawyer, a congressman, a true patriot, and a statesman.”
Beyond his public service, the family remembered Acop as a devoted presence at home.
“He was a loyal friend, a devoted father, and a loving lolo whose presence and guidance shaped our lives,” they said.
The family also thanked those who reached out during their time of mourning.
“We thank each and every one who has reached out to our family. Mula sa mga panalangin, sa mga mensahe ng pighati at pakikiramay, sa pagbalik-tanaw sa mga pagkakataong nakasama ninyo ang aming ama, hanggang sa pagbigay-suporta sa panahon ng aming pangungulila—tinatanaw po naming tanging-yaman ang mga ito,” they said.
Despite the sudden loss, the family shared that they are finding comfort in faith.
“We are also sincerely thankful for the understanding and patience shown to us as we come to terms with this unexpected loss. Amidst the sorrow, our family finds comfort in knowing that our father is now reunited with our Creator and with our mother, his beloved Doktora Cion,” they said.
The wake for Acop will be held at Haven of Angels in Antipolo City from December 23 to 26. The family has also requested privacy, setting aside December 22 as a private day of mourning.
“We, his children, have also collectively decided to set aside December 22 as a private day of mourning, to grieve and be with the rest of the family he left behind. We humbly ask for your understanding and respect for this request during this most difficult time,” they added.
