NAPOLCOM CLEARS 25-YEAR CASE BACKLOG

The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) has resolved long-pending cases involving some of its personnel that had remained unresolved for as long as 25 years, marking what officials described as a major institutional breakthrough.

NAPOLCOM Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan said the achievement is an “institutional milestone” for the commission.

“This was my first marching order, and today we can confidently say, we delivered. We are on track for zero backlog by Tuesday (December 23), where our formal announcement will be made,” Calinisan said.

Calinisan assumed office in April 2025 and immediately pushed for the resolution of all pending cases before the end of the year.

“We finished a 25-year case backlog, something many thought was impossible. But with service, integrity, and teamwork, we proved that genuine reform can happen,” he added.

In a separate statement, NAPOLCOM strongly condemned the killing of a police officer and the wounding of three others in an armed encounter with still unidentified suspects in Barangay San Isidro, Candelaria, Quezon on December 19.

The commission said it will not tolerate attacks against law enforcement officers and called for the swift identification, arrest, and prosecution of the perpetrators.

It also assured the public that it is closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other concerned agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and the pursuit of justice in accordance with the law.
