STRONG OPENING FOR 51ST MMFF NATIONWIDE

The 51st edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) opened on a strong note, with cinemas across the country drawing large crowds on its first day.

On its official social media accounts, the MMFF shared scenes of moviegoers flocking to theaters nationwide to support the eight official entries in the annual celebration of Filipino cinema.

While no official box-office figures have been released, reliable sources said the family comedy-drama Call Me Mother, starring Vice Ganda, Nadine Lustre, and Lucas Andalio, topped the opening-day box office. The film is produced by Star Cinema, The IdeaFirst Company, and VIVA Films.

Trailing far behind in second place was the horror trilogy Shake Rattle and Roll Evil Origins by Regal Entertainment, followed by UnMarry from Quantum Films, starring Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo.

Competing for the fourth and fifth spots were Bar Boys After School by 901 Studios and Love You So Bad from Star Cinema, GMA Pictures, and Regal Entertainment.

Rounding out the list were I’mPerfect by Nathan Studios, Manila’s Finest by MQuest Ventures, Cignal Entertainment, and Spring Films, and Rekonek by Reality MM Studios.

Sources estimated that the opening-day gross of the 2025 MMFF reached nearly ₱100 million, with about half reportedly coming from Call Me Mother.

Meanwhile, the 2025 MMFF Gabi ng Parangal is set for December 27 at 6:30 p.m. in Makati City, with a delayed telecast on TV5 at 9:15 p.m.
