Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste declined to present the full set of alleged documents from the late Public Works Undersecretary Catalina Cabral when approached by investigators, the Office of the Ombudsman revealed Monday, December 29.
In a video message, Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said Leviste only provided limited portions of the list in response to specific queries.
“This will differ from the congressman’s public statements suggesting that the full Cabral files had already been shown to or reviewed by the Office of the Ombudsman,” Clavano stated.
Leviste has been releasing unverified files allegedly handed to him by Cabral before her controversial death on December 18, including what he claims is a summary of the 2025 DPWH budget per district.
Clavano said several individuals have since approached the Ombudsman claiming to have copies of the same documents. However, he emphasized that the most credible sources “are actually the agencies and individuals who had custody, who had control and even authorship of the computers, the storage devices, and the files themselves.”
He added that the office is preparing a digital forensic examination of Cabral’s computer, which was recently turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
