BJMP TIGHTENS SECURITY FOR DISCAYA HEARINGS

The Lapu-Lapu City Jail Female Dormitory has heightened security measures ahead of contractor Sarah Discaya’s upcoming court proceedings.

On January 5, the Lapu-Lapu City Regional Trial Court Branch 27 will hear Discaya’s motion to remain under National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) custody, while her arraignment on malversation of public funds and graft charges is set for January 13.

“The BJMP since the arrival of Mrs. Discaya in the facility has put in place appropriate security measures for her safekeeping,” said Jail Chief Inspector Ivy Christine Manigos, warden of the female dormitory.

She added that protocols are ready for Discaya’s safe transit.

“While no official communication has been received regarding their decision to appear in person, the BJMP is nonetheless undertaking necessary preparations should a face-to-face appearance be decided upon,” Manigos noted.

BJMP Regional Office 7 has deployed a Special Tactics and Response Team for possible transport, with coordination from the Philippine National Police for augmentation.

Discaya and eight Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel are detained in Cebu over a “ghost” project in Davao Occidental.
