The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced it will expand the coverage of its e-trike and e-bike ban beyond EDSA, C-5, and Roxas Boulevard at Quirino Avenue to include more major roads in Metro Manila.
“Mas mapapalawak po natin ‘yan. Ang initial po ay Commonwealth. Tapos po ang Marcos Highway, Sumulong, at Quezon Avenue din… kasi kaliwa’t kanan sila, pumapasok sa gitna,” LTO chief Assistant Secretary Marcus Lacanilao said in a radio interview.
The ban, which took effect January 2 after a December deferment, has drawn complaints from drivers and passengers over its impact on livelihoods and commutes.
Lacanilao said enforcement will intensify, with vehicles to be impounded and a minimum fine of ₱1,000 imposed for traffic obstruction.
“Pahigpit po [kami] nang pahigpit. So starting this coming week, may makikita na rin po kayong mai-impound. Sana sumunod sila dahil hangga’t maaari ay ayoko naman silang ma-impound. Sa totoo lang, ang target ko ay ang mga malalaking isda, hindi sila. Kaya lang, may mga matitigas talaga ang ulo,” he explained.
The LTO said the ban is part of its broader effort to promote road safety for all road users.
