PALACE SAYS MARCOS WON’T MEDDLE IN VP SARA IMPEACHMENT MOVES

Malacañang distanced itself from fresh efforts to revive an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, stressing that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will not interfere in a process that belongs to Congress.

“Ang pagsasampa po ng impeachment complaint ng anumang grupo ay hindi po ‘to sakop ng Pangulo,” Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Tuesday, adding there have been no meetings in Malacañang on the matter.

She rejected claims that impeachment efforts undermine Marcos’ calls for unity, saying accountability and unity are not mutually exclusive.

“Hindi po magkakaroon ng pagkakaisa kung may naiiwang isyu na dapat na sagutin,” Castro said.

Asked if Marcos might step in to prevent a repeat of what critics called a “failed” impeachment attempt in 2025, Castro replied: “On our part, we cannot say that is a failure impeachment. There’s still an ongoing… pending case before the Supreme Court.”

She reiterated that impeachment rests solely with Congress.

“Anu’t anuman ang mangyari po tungkol sa impeachment, iyan naman po ay nasa jurisdiction po ng Kongreso,” she said.

Still, Castro underscored the President’s bottom line: “But, muli uulit-ulitin natin, ang Pangulo po ang nais po niya, managot ang dapat na managot.”
