Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong on Thursday reminded the public that the work of the House of Representatives does not center on Vice President Sara Duterte, responding to Senator Imee Marcos’ claim that “soft projects” could influence lawmakers to back a fresh impeachment effort.
“With all due respect to the Senator Marcos, our work in the House of Representatives does not revolve around one person, especially not the Vice President,” Adiong said.
“Kung ganun po siya as a senator, hindi po kami ganun magtrabaho. We advocate for our constituencies, ang ating mga kababayan,” he added.
Adiong emphasized that House members focus on both legislative work and addressing the needs of their constituents.
“Mahalaga po ang mga programa ito para sa ating mga mahihirap na kababayan. Napaka-fictional naman ang ganoon interpretasyon dahil hindi magkadugtong ang budget sa impeachment,” he said.
“At bilang member ng bicam, alam po ni Senator Imee yan. At alam din ng taong bayan yan dahil nanonood sila sa livestream ng budget process simula committee deliberation hanggang bicameral conference,” he added.
Regarding a potential new impeachment complaint against Duterte, Adiong said it would be based on merit, similar to previous complaints.
“Kung pag-uusapan natin yung dating articles of impeachment, seryoso lahat iyon, culpable violation of the constitution. Malinaw na malinaw ang pagkakasulat,” he said.
The one-year ban on filing an impeachment complaint against Duterte is set to expire on February 6.
