Malacañang on Sunday, January 11, dismissed the possible filing of an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as “unsubstantiated statements” and “political maneuverings.”
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the administration is aware of the impeachment claims but emphasized that the President remains focused on his duties.
“The administration will not speculate on rumours or political maneuverings,” Castro said.
Castro added that the President respects the Constitution and trusts that any action by lawmakers will be based on facts, the law, and the national interest.
“He respects the existing constitutional processes and believes that any actions taken by members of Congress will be driven by facts, the law, and national interest,” she said.
The statement came after Caloocan City 2nd District Representative Egay Erice revealed that several lawmakers may file an impeachment complaint against Marcos once the House resumes session.
Erice noted that discussions among lawmakers also cover Vice President Sara Duterte, as the one-year bar for filing a complaint against her will lapse on February 6.
