SOTTO VOWS PROMPT ACTION ON IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINTS

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III vowed Tuesday to act without delay on any impeachment complaint transmitted to the Senate.

Sotto said he would prioritize the chamber’s procedural duties to ensure prompt handling of such cases.

“One thing is certain, as (Senate president), I will act on it with dispatch, forthwith!” Sotto declared in a message to reporters.

“Whatever articles reach my office, I will immediately refer it to the Rules committee,” he added.

His statement followed remarks by Caloocan 2nd District Representative Egay Erice, who said efforts were underway to impeach President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. over alleged questionable budget insertions and graft-tainted appropriations.

Separately, a new impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte is expected to be filed in the House of Representatives once the one-year constitutional ban on such cases lapses on February 6.
