Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong on Saturday brushed aside rumors of a planned impeachment move against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., calling the supposed effort unclear and lacking substance.
Speaking at a news forum in Quezon City, Adiong said he sees no valid offense that could justify filing an impeachment complaint against the President.
“Unang-una, hindi natin alam kung sino ‘yong talagang gustong mag-file. Kaya nga very vague, shapeless, formless ‘yong mga ganitong klaseng pag-uusap,” he said.
“It’s hopeless, it’s shapeless, and we don’t even know what actually prompted these possible individuals – we don’t even know what they can attribute directly to the President that amounts to an impeachment complaint.”
The remarks came after Caloocan 2nd District Representative Egay Erice earlier claimed that some lawmakers were preparing to endorse an impeachment complaint against Marcos, describing it as a “collective action of a pro-VP (Vice President) Sara (Duterte) group.”
Erice said two legislators had already committed to endorse the complaint and added that he was invited to join the move but declined.
He said one of the possible grounds being floated is “betrayal of public trust” related to past national budget issues.
