In a rare television scenario, programs produced by ABS-CBN Studios are set to compete head-to-head in the 9:30 PM weekday primetime slot across different networks and platforms.
This follows TV5’s confirmation that it will re-air the 2023 television series “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso”—a collaboration between TV5 Network, Inc. and ABS-CBN Studios—this time as part of its primetime lineup. The series previously aired in the afternoon block and gained a steady following during its original run.
At the same 9:30 PM timeslot, “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso” will face stiff competition from “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab 2.0,” a co-production of ABS-CBN and GMA Network that airs exclusively on GMA-7 on free TV.
Adding to the primetime face-off is the Kapamilya mystery-drama series “What Lies Beneath,” which is currently airing on Kapamilya Channel via ALLTV2, cable TV, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.
The unusual matchup highlights ABS-CBN’s continued dominance as a content creator, with its productions airing simultaneously on rival networks and platforms.
It can be recalled that ABS-CBN was denied a new broadcast franchise by the House Committee on Legislative Franchises in 2020, prompting the Lopez-owned media company to shift its business model and operate primarily as a content provider.
Since then, ABS-CBN has partnered with major broadcasters such as GMA Network, TV5, A2Z, and ALLTV to deliver its programs to Filipino audiences nationwide.
The primetime clash underscores not only the strength of ABS-CBN’s content library but also the increasingly competitive and interconnected landscape of Philippine television.
