MAKABAYAN BLOC TO FILE OWN IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINT VS MARCOS

Members of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives announced Monday that they will file their own impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., following the first complaint lodged by lawyer Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Partylist Representative Jett Nisay.

The bloc, composed of ACT Teachers Representative Antonio Tinio, Gabriela Representative Sarah Elago, and Kabataan Representative Renee Co, said their initiative will be revealed at the proper time.

“Makabayan has its own impeachment initiative and will make an announcement at the proper time,” the group said.

They asserted that grounds for impeachment exist, citing alleged systematic plunder of the budget, ballooning unprogrammed funds tied to anomalous flood control projects, and serious allegations of Palace kickbacks in infrastructure projects.

“We believe that the basis for impeachment is present in the systematic plunder of the budget, the ballooning unprogrammed funds used for anomalous flood control projects, and the serious allegations of Palace kickbacks in infrastructure projects,” they added.

The lawmakers stressed that impeachment has become a vital accountability mechanism in the absence of official investigations.

“In a time when no government agency has investigated Marcos’ involvement in these impeachable acts, impeachment becomes an important venue for accountability,” the group said.

They further emphasized the need for accountability at all levels.

“Patuloy ang panawagan na lahat nang sangkot dapat managot, simula sa tuktok,” they added.

The announcement signals a widening push among progressive lawmakers to hold the President accountable amid corruption allegations tied to infrastructure spending.
