PALACE DISMISSES MARCOS IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINT AS “BASELESS”

Malacañang on Monday dismissed the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., calling it “baseless” even as it noted that the Palace has yet to receive a copy of the petition.

Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the issues raised had already been addressed by the administration and that Marcos’ actions remain within the bounds of law and the Constitution.

“Sa ngayon… masasabi nating ito ay walang basehan,” Castro said, stressing that the President’s moves and directives are well within the bounds of law.

She also questioned the political forces behind the complaint, pointing out that the party-list group endorsing the petition was among those flagged by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

“Ang partylist na nag-endorse ay isa sa walong contractors na nabanggit ng ICI,” she said.

The impeachment complaint, filed by lawyer Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Partylist Representative Jett Nisay, seeks Marcos’ removal over allegations tied to former President Rodrigo Duterte’s ICC arrest, supposed drug use, and claims of corruption in flood control projects.

This marks the first impeachment attempt against Marcos since 2022, with Malacañang signaling it will not be distracted by what it views as a politically motivated attack lacking legal foundation.
