President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday announced additional incentives that will double the cash rewards for Filipino medalists in the recently concluded Southeast Asian Games, with funding sourced from the Office of the President.
Speaking at a ceremony honoring Team Philippines’ campaign in Thailand, Marcos said the Palace would match the incentives mandated under Republic Act No. 10699, effectively increasing the payouts athletes are entitled to receive.
Team Philippines finished sixth overall in the 33rd SEA Games, securing 50 gold, 73 silver, and 154 bronze medals.
Under the Palace-funded scheme, medalists will receive ₱300,000 for gold, ₱150,000 for silver, and ₱60,000 for bronze—on top of incentives already granted through the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) with support from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
Around 500 athletes attended the recognition ceremony, where each medalist was also awarded a presidential citation. Marcos underscored the broader value of sports in nation-building.
“Sports not only foster national pride, but also promote discipline, character-building and youth development,” the President said.
The event was attended by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, PSC Chairman John Patrick Gregorio, and Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Tolentino.
