The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Thursday assured that no special treatment will be given to high-profile persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) facing charges in the alleged “ghost” flood control projects.
Speaking at the 2nd National Decongestion Summit at the Manila Hotel, BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Joseph Bustinera said former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and his co-accused will be detained in the same facilities as ordinary inmates.
Revilla and former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office officials Brice Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Arjay Domasig, and Juanito Mendoza are set to be held at the Quezon City Male Dormitory.
For transparency, Bustinera noted that the BJMP recently released a video showcasing improvements at the Quezon City jail.
“We just want to show na makatao, modern, humane facilities,” Bustinera said.
He added that Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has directed a strict zero tolerance policy against VIP treatment, warning that violators will face sanctions including charges and dismissal from service.
To reinforce accountability, Bustinera said cameras will be provided to jail personnel directly interacting with PDLs.
“We trust that our workers are professional and they will follow the set rules,” he said.
The BJMP emphasized that the policy ensures equal treatment for all detainees, regardless of status, as part of its commitment to transparency and humane detention standards.
