Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV expressed openness to forging an alliance with the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the upcoming 2028 elections.
In an interview on Friday, Trillanes reflected on lessons learned from the 2022 presidential race.
“Pagka-huli ka na nagdesisyon, huli ka na magsisimula. At nakita naman natin kung ano ang resulta no’n. Hindi maganda,” he said.
“So ngayon,” he continued, “napagkaisahan ng iba’t ibang grupo na mas maganda nang maaga ‘yong pagpili at pagsimula nang sa gano’n gumanda ang tiyansa ng middle forces.”
Trillanes emphasized the need for broader cooperation among political groups.
“Ang tinutulak ko nga, magsanib-pwersa pa ang middle forces—’yong mga Kakampink, and the others—with the admin supporters. Kasi ‘pag gano’n, mas malaki ang tiyansa talaga na matatalo ang pwersa ng mga Duterte,” he said.
He described the move as a strategic decision rather than a matter of political purity.
“Mas importante ‘yong mananalo tayo para makapagsilbi tayo. Kaysa ‘yong sabihin mong ang importante pure ka kahit matalo ka. I won’t buy that kasi in the end, talo ang bansa diyan at ‘yong mga kababayan natin,” Trillanes added.
The remarks followed recent speculation after Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Representative Leila de Lima posted a photo on social media showing Trillanes with Akbayan Partylist Representative Chel Diokno, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros, and other figures during a reported meeting.
