Malacañang on Tuesday dismissed former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s proposal to form a new “UniTeam” alliance to challenge Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp in the 2028 elections, saying the idea has not even reached President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified that no discussions have taken place within the administration regarding a possible partnership between Marcos supporters and backers of former Vice President Leni Robredo.
“Wala pa pong napag-uusapan patungkol po diyan. Hindi pa po nababanggit sa Pangulo ito, so wala pa pong response,” she said.
When asked if the administration would consider cooperation with former political rivals, Castro declined to give a definitive answer.
“Maybe it’s too early to comment on that,” she added.
Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte won a landslide victory under the UniTeam banner in 2022, campaigning on unity and continuity.
However, the alliance has since fractured, marked by political fallout, personal attacks, and policy disagreements—ranging from constitutional amendments and foreign policy to probes into Duterte’s alleged misuse of public funds.
