Former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and his co-accused in graft and malversation cases before the Sandiganbayan have been transferred to regular detention cells at the New Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas after completing a week-long medical quarantine.
The transfer took place on Monday, January 26.
Revilla is now sharing a detention cell with six other inmates who are not linked to the cases he is facing, including the ₱92.8-million alleged ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
His co-accused—former Public Works Engineers Brice Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Arjay Domasig, and Juanito Mendoza—are housed in separate cells within the same facility.
Two other co-accused, Emelita Juat and Christina Pineda, are detained at the Quezon City Jail female dormitory in Camp Karingal.
Revilla and his co-respondents underwent a mandatory seven-day quarantine before joining the jail’s general population of around 3,600 inmates.
He is being held in a 48-square-meter cell designed to accommodate up to 10 detainees. Each cell is equipped with five double-deck beds, two electric fans, and a shared lavatory and wash area. As with the quarantine period, detainees are prohibited from using cell phones and other electronic gadgets.
Inmates are allotted ₱100 per day for meals, while relatives are allowed to bring cooked food during visiting hours.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology spokesman Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera said authorities are exercising heightened caution due to the nature of the case.
“We have been strict because of the high profile nature of the case, and we need to ensure nothing happens to all of them while they’re in our custody,” Bustinera said.
