Senator Imee Marcos welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision affirming its earlier ruling that the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte were unconstitutional, describing it as a clear affirmation of constitutional boundaries amid political pressure.
In a statement, Marcos said the High Court’s rejection of the House of Representatives’ move to overturn the ruling emphasized that impeachment powers must always operate within the limits set by the Constitution, regardless of political backing.
“This is a victory for the rule of law and a reminder that no matter how powerful are the people behind the impeachment of VP Sara, no one is above the Constitution,” she said.
While welcoming the ruling, the senator cautioned that the setback may not put an end to efforts against the Vice President, noting that new impeachment attempts could still emerge once procedural restrictions expire.
“But whilst there will be no more short cuts, we are full certain that another impeachment complaint will be filed after Feb. 6,” Marcos added.
