President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appeared slimmer in a pre-recorded video message aired during the Philippine National Police (PNP) Day celebration at Camp Crame on Thursday, amid his temporary break from public engagements.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said the President has been on a “soup-only” diet for several days, following medical advice to rest for a week. Recto represented Marcos at the event.
“Looks like [it],” Recto told reporters when asked if the President had lost weight.
“Kung kayong lahat ay kumain lang ng sabaw ng tatlo o apat, limang araw eh talagang papayat ka,” he added.
Recto assured that Marcos is now in good condition and is expected to resume regular activities next week. He noted that the President’s recent absence from events fueled online rumors about his health.
Malacañang earlier confirmed that Marcos was hospitalized last week and diagnosed with diverticulitis, which involves inflammation in the colon.
Marcos has since described the condition as “not a life-threatening condition,” but has limited his appearances and engagements on doctors’ advice.
The Palace said Marcos is currently attending private meetings while recuperating.
When asked about possible action against fake documents circulating online about the President’s health, Recto said the matter has not yet been discussed but an investigation remains possible.
Recto added that the President is “well aware of any issue,” including the impeachment complaints filed against him in the House of Representatives.
