Malacañang on Thursday assured the public that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) remains operational and continues its investigation into alleged anomalies involving flood control projects.
“I believe the ICI is still operating and complying with its mandate,” Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a press briefing.
She stressed that no public funds had been wasted and that the commission is still reviewing submitted records.
“There’s no money spent na we can say was wasted. The people in the ICI are still working and investigating the documents given to them,” Castro added.
Earlier this month, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said the commission’s fact-finding work was nearing completion, noting that key issues surrounding the flood control controversy had already been examined.
He said he is awaiting the ICI’s final report, which will determine the body’s next steps.
At present, the commission is left with only one member—its chairperson, retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr.—following the resignations last year of former Public Works Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson and auditor Rossana Fajardo.
“Upon receipt of the report, the President will make the next move regarding the ICI,” Castro said.
She added that the commission is also looking into other cases connected to the alleged flood control racket.
