GOV’T FLAGS SUGAR INDUSTRY ISSUES AS PRIORITY

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Thursday said the government has placed pressing concerns in the sugar industry among its priorities, following a meeting with Senator Kiko Pangilinan aimed at addressing long-standing problems in the sector.

Recto said the issues raised during the discussion have been brought to the attention of concerned agencies for further review and policy consideration.

Pangilinan outlined the challenges faced by sugar farmers, mill workers, and consumers, along with proposed measures to help stabilize the industry.

The Executive Secretary emphasized that the administration is looking into possible interventions to respond to the concerns, stressing the need for coordination between the executive and legislative branches.

He also highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue with farmers, millers, and other stakeholders to ensure that reforms result in concrete improvements.

Recto and Pangilinan previously served together in the Senate during the 2001–2007 and 2016–2022 terms.
