MARCOS BACKS SANDRO’S IMPEACHMENT RECUSAL

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has expressed support for his eldest son, House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos, after the lawmaker decided to recuse himself from the deliberations on impeachment complaints filed against the President.

In an interview with Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro on Wednesday night, the President said his son did not consult him about the issue but stressed that the decision was appropriate given their relationship.

“Hindi niya sinasabi sa akin. Pero tama ‘yung ginagawa niya. That’s very proper dahil I am his father. And siyempre, mayroon siyang bias for me,” Marcos said.

He added that stepping aside was necessary to protect the integrity of the process.

“Tama ‘yan, he should recuse himself. He should remove himself from the process so that the process can be seen to be fair and proper,” the President said.

Earlier, Sandro announced his inhibition from the impeachment proceedings, saying it was meant to preserve the credibility of the House of Representatives.

Two impeachment complaints have been filed against President Marcos—one by lawyer Andre de Jesus, endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Partylist Representative Jett Nisay, and another by the Makabayan coalition through its allied lawmakers.
