Malacañang clarified that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is not considering Charter change at this time, emphasizing that his focus remains on economic growth and recovery.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement after Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III expressed support for constitutional amendments following the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld the unconstitutionality of the 2025 impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a message to reporters, Castro said the issue was not raised in the President’s recent meeting with his economic team.
Asked if Marcos would support Charter change should Congress move forward, Castro said the President would only act once formal proposals are presented.
Malacañang earlier stressed that Marcos respects the Supreme Court’s decision reaffirming the constitutional bar on the impeachment case against Duterte.
She added that the administration’s legislative priorities remain unaffected by impeachment debates.
On whether the Palace has a message for Congress amid talks of refiling or amending impeachment rules, Castro underscored that the President will not interfere.
“Trabaho po iyan ng Kongreso, hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo,” she said.
