VP SARA CAMP UNFAZED BY NEW IMPEACHMENT CASES

The camp of Vice President Sara Duterte said it was not surprised by the new impeachment complaints filed against her on Monday, February 2, and stressed that it is ready to face the allegations.

According to Vice President Duterte’s lawyer, Atty. Michael Poa, the filing of additional impeachment cases was already anticipated and the Vice President’s legal team is prepared to address them through constitutional means.

“The filing of new impeachment complaints against the Vice President comes as no surprise,” Poa said.

He added, “We are prepared to confront these allegations squarely through the proper constitutional processes, confident that a fair and impartial review will demonstrate that the accusations are devoid of both factual and legal basis.”

On Monday, the Makabayan Bloc led the filing of the first impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte following the lapse of the one-year ban imposed last year.

This was followed by a second impeachment complaint filed by a civil society organization, joined by Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña and Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Representative Leila de Lima.

De Lima said accountability should now be enforced against the Vice President.

“It’s about time na panagutin na si VP Sara,” de Lima said.

At present, both Vice President Duterte and her former ally, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., are facing separate impeachment complaints.
