MINORITY LACKS NUMBERS TO OUST SENATE LEADERSHIP — CAYETANO

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano confirmed that the minority bloc currently does not have enough numbers to unseat the present leadership of the Senate.

In an interview with reporters, Cayetano said they have yet to secure the required 13 votes needed to replace Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

“I think everyone is campaigning instead of governing. So it’s really, do you get 13 people of likeminds? But as of today, wala pa yung 13 na yun,” Cayetano said.

He clarified that it is no secret that members of the minority bloc are aiming to regain the Senate majority should their bid to change the leadership succeed.

“We’re in the minority, so of course we want to be in the majority. That was never a secret,” Cayetano said.

He added that shifting power dynamics in the Senate are not unusual.

“Sila they were in the minority they got into the majority. When they got there, everyone is happy giving them a try. They have their victories, they have their faults,” he said.

Earlier, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson addressed renewed talk of a leadership shakeup in a post on X, describing such moves as a recurring reality in the Senate.

“An emerging threat to the senate leadership? Let’s put it this way-like rebellion, the threat against the senate presidency is a continuing crime since time immemorial,” Lacson said.
