Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed on Tuesday, February 3, that Senator Loren Legarda was offered the Senate presidency but declined the position.
In an interview with the media, Sotto said it was Legarda herself who informed him of the offer the previous day.
“Sinabi niya hindi siya interesado,” Sotto said, while assuring that Legarda remains “solid” with the Senate majority bloc.
Sotto also expressed confidence in the stability of the majority group in the Senate, noting that its ranks could even grow in the coming days with the possible addition of senators who were previously not aligned with them.
“Ang buong majority namin, very solid. As a matter of fact, baka mga dalawa, mga isa sa mga di namin kasama dati, baka mapasama pa eh,” he added.
However, the Senate President declined to elaborate further on the matter, stressing that discussions about leadership were merely informal.
“I’d rather not dwell into it already. Ayoko nang pag-usapan kasi they were merely talks… siya na lang tanungin niyo,” Sotto said.
