President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has “initially approved” a proposal to extend the validity of registration for newly registered vehicles to five years, Malacañang announced on Tuesday.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the proposal was presented by Transportation Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez during a meeting at Malacañang Palace.
“Iinisyal po na naaprubahan ito ng Pangulo at susundan po ito ng mga memorandum na gagawin po ng DOTr so hintayin na lamang po natin ‘to,” Castro said.
The proposed extension is expected to ease the burden on motorists by reducing the frequency of vehicle registration, cutting long queues at government offices, and lowering overall compliance costs.
During the same briefing, Lopez also updated the President on ongoing improvements in railway operations.
These include the rehabilitation of MRT-3 facilities at Quezon Avenue Station, the continued rollout of cashless payment systems at MRT-3, and plans to introduce cashless payments in LRT-1 and LRT-2 by 2026.
Lopez further reported the refurbishment of the remaining Dalian trains, a move aimed at boosting MRT-3’s passenger capacity.
