Senator Robin Padilla said he is open to considering a change in Senate leadership should impeachment issues arise, particularly those involving Vice President Sara Duterte.
In an interview on Tuesday, February 3, Padilla said he currently sees no reason to replace the Senate President unless leadership becomes relevant to possible impeachment proceedings.
He reiterated his support for Vice President Duterte and made clear his opposition to any impeachment effort against her.
“Para saan ba? Wala pa naman akong nakikitang dahilan siguro pagka usapan na ng impeachment baka sakali,” Padilla said.
“Inday ako eh, ayoko ng impeachment ni Inday (Sara),” he added.
Padilla said he would prefer a Senate President from the minority bloc who is supportive of the Vice President.
He also brushed off persistent rumors of a leadership shakeup in the Senate, saying such speculation is inevitable and bound to continue.
His remarks followed earlier statements by Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who revealed that Senator Loren Legarda had been approached and offered the Senate Presidency, an offer she eventually declined.
