PHILIPPINES CONSIDERING INVITE TO US-LED BOARD OF PEACE

United States President Donald Trump has invited the Philippines to join the Board of Peace (BOP), a multinational initiative focused on advancing post-conflict solutions, particularly the reconstruction of Gaza.

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez confirmed Thursday that Trump sent a personal letter to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. extending the invitation.

“Of course, we have to find out how we can be of help. We’ve always been for finding a way to contribute to any kind of peace effort,” Romualdez said during the launch of the commemorative logo for the 80th US-Philippines anniversary in Pasay City.

He noted that while there is no deadline for Manila’s response, a decision could be made within the next few weeks.

“Our Department of Foreign Affairs and, of course, our other institutions, we are looking at what are the angles and how we can help,” he added.

Romualdez clarified that the Philippines may contribute through human resources or other forms of support rather than monetary commitments, citing the reported $1 billion contribution required of permanent members.

Launched at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on January 22, the BOP aims to provide strategic oversight and mobilize international resources to restore peace and stability in Gaza. Indonesia and Vietnam are currently the only Southeast Asian members of the board.
