President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday said the impeachment complaints filed against him before the House of Representatives failed due to lack of basis, after the House Committee on Justice dismissed two separate complaints for insufficiency in substance.
“These things are distractions from the things that we are doing,” Marcos said, stressing that the complaints did not meet constitutional requirements.
The complaints, filed by lawyer Andre de Jesus and a group led by former Gabriela Party-list Representative Liza Maza, accused Marcos of culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust.
Marcos said he was not worried about the proceedings, describing them as politically motivated.
“I knew that I will be all right in terms of the impeachment kasi wala naman, there were no real grounds… It was a political move, as usual,” he added.
The House Committee of Justice declared both complaints insufficient in substance on Wednesday, formally ending the review at the constitutional stage.
Marcos welcomed the dismissal, saying it allows him to focus on his presidential duties.
“Of course, I’m glad that impeachment complaints against me have been finished… I’m happy and we can get on with our work,” he said.
