President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the creation of an inter-agency Philippine Organizing Committee (POC) to spearhead the country’s participation in Green Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan.
Under Administrative Order No. 41 signed on February 4, the Department of Agriculture (DA) was named chair, with the Department of Tourism (DOT) as vice chair.
The committee also includes the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.
The DA will act as the focal point, representing the Philippines in official activities and coordinating member agencies through regular meetings. It may form subcommittees and designate lead agencies for specific thematic areas.
Malacañang emphasized that participation supports the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028, particularly goals on agricultural modernization, sustainability, competitiveness, and science-driven growth.
The order also authorizes collaboration with the private sector, NGOs, and academe to mount investment-focused exhibits.
Government agencies were directed to extend full support, while local governments and private firms were encouraged to join to ensure a strong national presence.
The POC must submit quarterly reports to the President detailing expenditures, income, accomplishments, and policy recommendations, followed by a comprehensive post-Expo report.
Green Expo 2027, recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), will run from March to September 2027 under the theme: “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”
The event is expected to provide the Philippines with a global platform to highlight biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism, cultural heritage, and green technologies, while attracting investors in climate-smart ventures across Southeast Asia.
