TROPICAL CYCLONE BASYANG AFFECTS OVER 232,000 PEOPLE

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tropical Cyclone Basyang has affected 64,360 families, or about 232,550 individuals, across 517 barangays in Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, and CARAGA.

As of Saturday, a total of 16,528 families are staying in 480 evacuation centers, while 4,489 families are receiving assistance outside evacuation sites.

The Office of Civil Defense confirmed at least eight fatalities linked to the storm. Four deaths were caused by a landslide in Cagayan de Oro City, three were reported in Iligan City, and one drowning incident occurred in Agusan del Norte.

Basyang weakened into a low pressure area early Saturday and dissipated later in the morning, but authorities said its effects continue to be felt in several affected communities.
