AQUINO SAYS LP-AKBAYAN MEET WITH ROBREDO WAS A REUNION

Senator Bam Aquino on Monday clarified that the recent meeting of Liberal Party (LP) and Akbayan members with former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo was informal and more of a reunion than a political discussion.

“It was more like a reunion honestly. Matagal na rin kaming hindi nagkikita-kita. It was really good na nagkita-kita kami,” Aquino told reporters on February 9.

He said the gathering also touched on current national issues and shared advocacies.

“At syempre, napag-usapan rin namin yung mga nangyayari sa ating bansa, nangyayari rin sa iba’t-ibang naming mga adbokasiya. And it was nice to get to see everybody as well,” he added.

Asked about the possibility of a “united opposition” for the 2028 elections, Aquino emphasized the need for broader cooperation beyond electoral politics.

“Mahalaga na nagsasama-sama ang iba’t-ibang mga grupo. Hindi lang yung mga taong nasa meeting ngayon. Kailangan talagang magtulungan tayo. At hindi lang para sa next election, para ngayon,” he said, stressing that pressing national concerns require immediate collective action.

Aquino declined to discuss potential opposition candidates for 2028, including Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros or Robredo.

“We talked about it and klaro na yung problema ng mga kababayan natin is urgent. Hindi pwedeng maghintay ng ilang taon para magtulungan at magsama-sama. Ngayon pa lang kailangan na magsama,” he said.

“So as early as now nag-uusap about 2028 elections? Maraming nag-uusap,” Aquino added.
