HOUSE JUSTICE PANEL DISMISSES MARCOS IMPEACHMENT CASES

The House Committee on Justice on Monday approved a report dismissing the impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., ruling them “insufficient in substance.”

Batangas 2nd District Representative Gerville Luistro, chair of the panel, read the dispositive portion of the report, while San Juan City Representative Ysabel Zamora moved for its adoption. The committee voted 39-4, with no abstentions.

The complaints, filed separately by lawyer Andre de Jesus and the Makabayan bloc, were previously found sufficient in form but fell short on substantive grounds.

Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Representative Leila de Lima supported dismissing the de Jesus complaint but opposed rejecting Makabayan’s case.

The report now moves to the House plenary for nominal voting.

By House rules, one-third of the chamber’s 315 members—at least 105 lawmakers—must vote to overturn the committee’s decision for the impeachment process to advance to the Senate.
