PNP BOOSTS SECURITY FOR BARICUATRO AFTER DEATH THREAT

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has increased the security detail for Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro following revelations of an alleged ₱2.5 million contract to harm her.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said the governor’s protection has expanded from two escorts to two teams of 14 officers providing 24/7 security.

“We are still verifying the death threat and in the meantime, there were additional policemen tasked to secure her,” Tuaño said.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered intelligence units to investigate the threat, emphasizing that similar protections are provided to all public officials facing harassment or intimidation.

Baricuatro disclosed that a hired killer from Mindanao had allegedly been tasked with the attack, reportedly planned outside Cebu.

Tuaño noted that initial information came from a personal assistant who relayed the alleged offer.

“We are taking all threats seriously… additional personnel were sent to secure her while the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
