Senate Deputy Minority Leader Rodante Marcoleta on Tuesday downplayed speculation about a possible vice presidential run alongside Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2028 elections, saying discussions on higher office are premature.
In a television interview, Marcoleta stressed that he is still adjusting to his role as a first-term senator.
“I am only a seven-month senator of the Republic of the Philippines. Parang pinakakain mo ako ng solid na alam mo infant pa ako. Solid ba pakakain mo sa infant?” he remarked.
Talks of a Duterte-Marcoleta tandem surfaced after former Davao del Norte Governor Anthony del Rosario floated Marcoleta’s name late last year.
Pressed on the possibility, Marcoleta did not commit but acknowledged that future circumstances and public sentiment could influence decisions.
“Kung halimbawa naman ang developments ay pointing towards that direction…at saka maraming tao nag-advocate, alam nilang marami tayong magagawa, sino naman ako na hindi titingnan yung possibility?” he said.
He clarified, however, that no formal discussions or commitments have been made, adding that other personalities could also bolster Duterte’s potential slate.
“Marami… Hindi tayo pwedeng mag-particularize,” Marcoleta noted.
