Senator Raffy Tulfo urged officials of Meta Platforms Inc. to immediately take down a “deepfake” Facebook post targeting President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during a Senate hearing on fake news and online disinformation.
Tulfo said the manipulated content, reportedly posted on February 2, remained accessible more than a week after it was flagged, prompting him to criticize Meta for its delayed response.
Meta Public Policy Head for Indonesia and the Philippines Berni Moestafa said the content had already been removed based on his latest information, but acknowledged that similar posts could still be circulating under different accounts.
Meta Philippines Public Policy Head Gio Tiongson added that the post had been reported through the government reporting channel by the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and that identified links were taken down.
He said the company would immediately review and remove any reposted versions once provided with the specific links.
The hearing is part of the Senate’s broader inquiry into fake news and deepfake content online, as lawmakers push for the passage of priority anti-fake news legislation backed by Marcos and the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council.
