DE LIMA WELCOMES ICC MOVE, CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima welcomed the release by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of names tagged as alleged co-perpetrators of former President Rodrigo Duterte in crimes against humanity.

The ICC’s Document Containing the Charges identified Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Bong Go, as well as former Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, among those linked to Duterte’s anti-drug campaign.

In a social media post, de Lima declared:

“Justice will be served… In laying down the charges against Duterte, the ICC Prosecutor also just made the world smaller for his co-perpetrators by naming them… time and again, we warned this people, even from prison, that this day will come. Like Duterte, they did not listen. Mayayabang pa sila.”

She added that some may attempt to evade accountability but maintained that justice cannot be avoided:

“Many of them will now go into hiding, joining Bato on the lam. No matter, Justice will always catch up with them. Justice will be served.”

De Lima ended with a strong call for accountability:

“Panahon na ng pagpapanagot sa pagpatay sa mga kapwa Pilipino! Oras na ng pagbabayad sa mga krimen laban sa sangkatauhan!”
