SENATE MINORITY BLOC MAY SHRINK AMID ICC, SCAM CONTROVERSIES

The Senate minority bloc led by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano may shrink to just three members amid controversies tied to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the multi-billion peso flood control scam, according to a Politiko report.

From being one of the strongest minority groups in Senate history, the bloc could be reduced to Cayetano, Senator Imee Marcos, and Senate Deputy Minority Leader Rodante Marcoleta.

Speculation grew after Senator Bong Go was named in the ICC case on the Duterte-era drug war, raising the possibility he might follow Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who has been absent from the chamber since November 2025 after reports of an ICC arrest warrant.

“It’s likely that Go will also go underground like Dela Rosa now that they’ve been directly implicated by the ICC,” a Politiko source said.

Meanwhile, Senators Chiz Escudero, Joel Villanueva, and Jinggoy Estrada were reportedly tagged in a draft Senate Blue Ribbon Committee report on the flood control scam.

Senator Robin Padilla, a known Duterte ally, is also said to be considering a shift to the majority bloc.

The developments follow Cayetano’s failed bid to unseat Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and replace him with Senator Loren Legarda earlier this month.
