PALACE DISMISSES 2028 POLITICAL SPECULATION

Malacañang on Friday brushed aside growing speculation about a possible 2028 alliance between President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and former Vice President, now Naga City Mayor, Leni Robredo.

Palace officials emphasized that such discussions are premature and distract from the administration’s current work.

The reaction followed remarks by political analyst Antonio Contreras, who suggested that if elections were held today, a Marcos-backed Robredo could potentially defeat Vice President Sara Duterte.

Contreras also noted that Duterte’s early declaration of her intent to run in 2028 might reflect concerns within her camp.

Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro responded by underscoring that governance, not election maneuvering, is the administration’s priority.

“Ang lumalabas ay aksiyon versus bakasyon? Nagtatrabaho versus hindi nagtatrabaho? Pro-Philippines versus not pro-any country? Suhestiyon na igagalang, patawad pero hindi napapanahon,” Castro said.

Castro further stressed that conversations about possible endorsements or rivalries in the 2028 race are not aligned with the President’s present priorities.

She added that whatever prompted Duterte’s early presidential bid announcement is not a concern for the Palace at this time.

According to Castro, the administration remains focused on delivering results and addressing national issues, rather than engaging in political maneuvering tied to the next national elections.
