Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong expressed confidence Friday that impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte will not hinder the push for an anti-political dynasty law.
“That’s what makes the House unique because we can have a lot of things simultaneously. Kaya naman ’yan,” Adiong said.
As chair of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, Adiong emphasized that his focus remains on finalizing the committee report and submitting a substitute bill to the plenary before Congress’ Holy Week break on March 18.
He noted that committees are tasked with specific measures, allowing legislative work to continue alongside impeachment deliberations.
The four impeachment complaints against Duterte are expected to be referred to the House Committee on Justice next week.
Cagayan de Oro 1st District Representative Lordan Suan echoed Adiong’s optimism, saying the chamber has consistently managed multiple priorities.
“We have always been capable enough to finish tackling these bills in a timely manner. Kaya ’yan, kaya natin gawin ’yan,” Suan said.
Gabriela Party-list Representative Sarah Elago also backed simultaneous deliberations, while 1Tahanan Party-list Representative Nathaniel Oducado pointed out that the key challenge lies in defining what constitutes a political dynasty.
Adiong’s committee held a public consultation in Cagayan de Oro on Friday, signaling continued momentum for the measure despite the politically charged impeachment proceedings.
