British retail icon Marks & Spencer (M&S) is stirring speculation about a possible shutdown of its Philippine operations.
The retailer has struggled internationally in recent years, but its local presence has remained intact through its long-time franchise partner, Rustan Marketing Specialists Inc., a member of Store Specialists Inc. under the Tantoco family.
On December 31, 2025, M&S closed its stores at Robinsons Manila, Ayala Malls Marquee, Trinoma, and Ayala Center Cebu. Earlier, its branch at SM Mall of Asia ceased operations in June 2025.
Currently, all M&S products are on sale, and the brand continues to operate 13 branches nationwide, including two in Davao and one in Laguna.
These developments have fueled speculation that the British retailer may be preparing to wind down its Philippine operations.
