CIVIL SOCIETY FILES ETHICS COMPLAINT VS. DELA ROSA OVER ABSENCES

A civil society group led by former Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno filed an ethics complaint on Wednesday, February 25, against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa over his prolonged absence from Senate duties, which has now stretched beyond three months.

The organization, named “Wag Kang KuCorrupt,” argued that dela Rosa’s continued absence amounts to neglect of duty and a serious breach of public trust.

“Ang hinihingi po natin ay magkaroon ng sanction katulad ng ordinaryong manggagawa na nagkakaroon ng sanction kapag hindi ginagawa ang trabaho,” Magno said, stressing that ordinary workers face disciplinary actions for repeated absenteeism.

Magno urged the Senate Committee on Ethics to act swiftly and impose appropriate sanctions, highlighting the importance of maintaining accountability and standards of conduct in the chamber.

Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito, who chairs the committee, confirmed that there are currently six pending ethics complaints before the panel, including the one filed against dela Rosa.
