PNP REPORTS 25% DROP IN FOCUS CRIMES

The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced a 25 percent decrease in focus crimes nationwide from January 1 to February 28, 2026, compared to the same period last year.

According to PNP data, 4,532 cases were reported in the first two months of 2026, down from 6,081 cases in 2025. February alone saw 2,269 cases, a decline from 2,835 during the same month last year.

Breakdown of Declines:

  • Murder: 505 (from 586)
  • Homicide: 172 (from 189)
  • Physical injuries: 556 (from 777)
  • Rape: 605 (from 1,563)
  • Theft: 1,769 (from 1,964)
  • Motor vehicle carnapping: 28 (from 45)
  • Motorcycle carnapping: 295 (from 380)

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. attributed the reduction to the Enhanced Managing Police Operations program.

“Inia-attribute natin ang pagbaba ng krimen sa mas maayos na deployment, mas mabilis na pagresponde, at mas epektibong koordinasyon. Patuloy nating pinaiigting ang data-driven interventions,” Nartatez said.

The PNP emphasized that continued data-driven strategies and improved coordination remain central to sustaining the downward trend in crime.
