MAYNILAD INTENSIFIES NRW REDUCTION DRIVE

Maynilad Water Services has intensified efforts to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) by detecting and repairing leaks across its distribution network, aiming to curb wastage and improve supply.

NRW refers to treated water that is produced but not billed to customers due to physical losses, commercial losses, or authorized but unbilled use such as firefighting, public service connections, and system maintenance.

During a media briefing, the company showcased its leak detection devices, including listening sticks, leak correlators, and mobile leak detectors.

Maynilad said the demonstration was meant to raise public awareness of its campaign to bring down NRW levels.

Currently, NRW stands at 30.9%, but the utility targets a reduction to 25% by 2027 and 20% by 2030.

In a statement, Maynilad reported that in 2025 alone, it recovered about 256 million liters per day (MLD) of water through leak detection, pipe replacement, pressure management, and network monitoring.

“An amount equivalent to the output of a major water treatment plant, or nearly the combined production of two of Maynilad’s southern water treatment facilities,” the company noted.

The recovered supply, equivalent to two treatment plants, allows more water to reach areas with low pressure, ensuring adequate distribution.

Under its business plan, Maynilad has allocated ₱7.7 billion this year for NRW management initiatives, underscoring its commitment to long-term conservation and efficiency.
